Mareeba – QLD

Mareeba was a great little town with plenty to do. The free history museum in town was really well laid out, it had everything from aboriginal artefacts to settlers, mining and old technologies. It was a good education for the kids on how far things have come.

We also went to our first drive-in movies and set up the back of the car as a bed for the kids, they loved it and we want to find more!

Day 2 We went rock hopping with rock wallabies at Granite Gorge, there were some challenging climbing areas but we all made it and cooled down with a splash in the creek at the end. You get a bag of food to feed them and they come out for a pat. There’s also bird and reptile displays at the main building.

The pub in town (The Gateway Hotel) had a great playground and food for kids, they are busy so book in for lunch!

We stayed at the Kui Trinity Plains Tourist Park just out of town, easy drive-through sites with power and water.

We really enjoyed this area and will be back to explore more of the national parks!
