Thunderbird Park - Mt Tamborine - QLD

Top 5 Campgrounds within 2 hours of Brisbane that allow fires

We are Gold Coast locals and we love a campsite with the big 3; a creek, a fire pit and something for the kids to do! It certainly makes for a good weekend away, sitting around a fire while the kids entertain themselves near by.

Here's our top 5 South East Queensland camp sites:

Thunderbird Park

Mount Tamborine / Gold Coast - QLD

This campground is on Mount Tamborine in the Gold Coast hinterland. There is so much to do here! There is a creek to play in, high ropes course, laser tag, horse riding, thunderegg fossicking, and a cafe on site. You can have a fire at your campsite and there’s a range of options for staying here with unpowered or powered sites available.

Gold Coast Holiday Park

Helensvale / Gold Coast - QLD

This holiday park is located right opposite Movie World near the M1.  You would never guess the amazing facilities available here from the road.  There’s both powered and unpowered bush camps located towards the back of the park (Riverwalk area).  The park has a pool, massive splash park, restaurant, kids club, jumping pillow, luxury camp kitchens, dogs are welcome and is big rig friendly.

Spring Gully Stays

Canungra / Gold Coast- QLD

Just 30 mins from the Gold Coast is this relaxing bush campground, access is by a well maintained dirt road.  There’s 2 sides of the creek; powered and unpowered.  Portapotties on the unpowered, full amenities block on the powered side of the creek.  There are deep and shallow places to swim along the creek.  From here you can day trip to O’Reilly’s Canungra Valley Vineyards and see the Alpaca’s or up to O’Reilly’s Retreat for lunch and do the rainforest walk.

Cobb & Co Nine Mile

Tandur / Sunshine Coast - QLD

Cobb & Co is just north of Noosa and was such a great place for kids, about 10 families here when we stayed and room for many more, the kids all just roamed free, we gave ours a walkie talkie and off they went exploring. There is a bunch of playground equipment around the camp, with slides, bike tracks, flying fox (Keira’s fav) and pirate ship (Harlan’s fav). There’s a camp kitchen, flushing toilets, hot showers, cool old coach and historical pieces around the property, oh and the animals!  Near by are the Mothar Rockpools.

Borumba deer park

Imbil / Sunshine Coast - QLD

Borumba deer park in the Sunshine Coast hinterland is a great park, with animals to feed, movie for the kids, 2 playgrounds, the creek, soccer field and fires at your campsite.

In town there is a lookout that’s nice for lunch, playground opposite the bakery, and a dam/lake that you can go boating on.   You can have a paddle in the creek, it is shallow but there are rope swings to play on as well.
